IWC Schaffhausen has revealed a new chapter for the Ingenieur collection with the release of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 Ref. IW328908, inspired by Apple Original Film’s F1® THE MOVIE. In the film, Brad Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, sports a custom-designed watch echoing the spirit of the original Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832. Developed in collaboration with Brad Pitt, Cloister Watch Company, and IWC, this unique piece now forms the basis for a limited production run of 1000 pieces. The new model brings to life the signature green seen in Hayes’s racing livery, enhanced by a “Grid”-patterned dial, gold-plated appliques, and luminous detailing for peak functionality.
The watch preserves key Ingenieur design codes, notably its robust stainless steel construction, integrated bracelet with butterfly folding clasp, and the iconic bezel secured by five functional screws. Powering the timepiece is the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre, offering a 120-hour power reserve and water resistance up to 10 bar. A soft-iron inner case ensures protection against magnetic fields, maintaining the Ingenieur’s technical edge in everyday wear and more demanding environments alike.
Tied closely to the adrenaline-fueled world of Formula One™, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 not only bridges the gap between cinematic storytelling and mechanical craftsmanship but also strengthens IWC’s historical connection to performance-driven design. With the spotlight on F1® THE MOVIE — directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring a lineup that includes Damson Idris and Javier Bardem — the timepiece is poised to capture the interest of motorsport fans, cinephiles, and collectors alike.
