The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon watch by Chopard is an 88-piece limited edition timepiece made to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Wood Dragon, symbolizing luck, prosperity, and environmental harmony. It features a 39.5 mm ethical 18-carat rose gold case and a slim 6.80 mm profile, powered by the in-house L.U.C 96.17-L calibre with a micro-rotor.
The dial, a blend of Urushi lacquer, gold powder, and mother-of-pearl inlays, is created using the Maki-e technique by Minori Koizumi, a master artisan from the century-old Japanese company Yamada Heiando. This intricate process takes 20 hours for each of the 88 dials produced. The design incorporates a powerful dragon motif, with the red and yellow colors signifying imperial authority and auspiciousness, connecting to the Chinese zodiac and the Five Elements Theory.
The Year of the Dragon begins on February 10th, 2024, and this watch celebrates Chopard’s dedication to traditional craftsmanship and its 12-year history of creating zodiac-themed Urushi watches, completing the cycle with the dragon. The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon is notable for its technical excellence and artistic craftsmanship, providing an unparalleled level of elegance and mastery.
